SupplierBusiness : History

SupplierBusiness (then known as AutoBusiness) was started in 1995 to provide information for decision makers in the automotive supply industry. Most consultancies and forecasters that analyse the automotive industry focus on the needs of the vehicle makers looking at trends and issues in the vehicle markets.

The two partners behind "SupplierBusiness" Edmund Chew and Colin Whitbread saw a growing need for information for and about the automotive industry's rapidly changing supplier base. Both had previously worked for leading economic institutions serving the automotive industry - the Economist Intelligence Unit and DRI, now Global Insight - before moving to financial institutions as European automotive analysts, at a series of European, American and Japanese stockbrokers.

Their first report, published in association with leading European investment bank UBS Warburg in 1995, looked at the structure and trends in the largely privately owned German automotive supply industry. Together with the VDA, the German trade association, SupplierBusiness organised the first of its regular biennial research seminars on sources of information for the automotive industry in Europe, reports on trends in North American supplier investment in Europe and the European supplier industry followed, again, in association with leading investment banks.
